Queer representation is limited to a lesbian couple that dies within the first few pages. The couple is portrayed as slightly sexually predatory and desperate. The relationship seems to be somewhat abusive.

The lesbianism has nothing to do with the plot, and seems to be either gratuitous, or an attempt and to expose the masses to the lifestyle.
