In 2020, there is a nuclear blast that wipes out the world. Outpost 3, an underground bunker, is constructed in order to shelter specific survivors with strong genetic makeup or the money to reserve a space. The women that run the bunker happily dispense torture towards those who reside there.

The witches from the previous season 'Coven' attempt to stop the anti-Christ from concluding his diabolic plans, as shown in both the plot and through flashbacks. The flashbacks bringing in the plot and setting of 'Murder House'.

Qvamp says:

Queer characters are prevalent in this season like they are in most others. Though in this season they are limited to openly gay men in the bunker, and a lesbian couple. Sadly, all the queer characters this season are just victims.

This season ties together many others, including Murder House, Hotel and Coven.

Like most of the seasons of American Horror Story, queer actors and crew are prominent. For this season it includes: Sarah Paulson, Cheyenne Jackson, Billy Eichner, Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman, Sandra Bernhard, BD Wong, Billy Porter and Ryan Murphy.
